Posted by & filed under News.

The Potawatomi Carter Casino & Hotel celebrated a ribbon cutting to mark the completion of the interior renovation. The project consisted of renovations and repairs to the existing casino along with room remodels due to water damage. Greenfire served as the CM on the project and the team includes Ron Wiedeman, Senior Project Manager, and Scott Earley, Superintendent. We would also like to recognize Chad Greuel, Superintendent, and Mark McCloskey, Superintendent, for their assistance on this project as well.

The ceremony, which occurred on Veteran’s Day, began with the Color Guard followed by the Fire Nation drum circle. Chairman Ned Daniels, Jr. gave opening remarks addressing the challenges of the water damage to the Casino and how grateful the Tribe is to now be celebrating its resolve. Leigh Redington, General Manager, spoke next regarding the success of the project and thanking all parties involved. Jeb Meier, Greenfire President, closed out the ceremony and he too thanked the project team’s dedication and ability to work collaboratively to resolve the water damage. A ribbon cutting followed celebrating the successful project. Afterwards, attendees had to opportunity to tour the renovated rooms, enjoy a luncheon and try their luck in the casino.

We would like to thank our Owners, the Forest County Potawatomi Community, for selecting Greenfire to serve as the CM on this important project. We would also like to thank the Greenfire project team for their resolve, dedication, and hard work.

CVI Heroes Market Drive

Greenfire partnered with the Center For Veterans Issues, Inc. to host our first Heroes Market Drive for Veterans on the Wgema Campus. The Heroes Market Pantry opened its doors in March 2022 and provides services to help improve the quality of life for veterans, their families, and communities in which they live and serve.

Greenfire is fortunate to have several veterans and active-duty service members on our team. It is our honor to support our Veterans and be able to give back to our community and neighborhood. We are humbled by the overwhelming participation. Together, we donated over 400 non-perishable food and winter clothing items along with a donation of $1,500 for the Heroes Market.

We would like to thank our Greenfire Team, Potawatomi Business Development Corporation, Wgema Campus Police Department, Lisa Kaye’s Catering and our Wgema Campus neighbors, who helped make this year’s drive a success!

Indigenous Business Conference

Posted by & filed under News.

The inaugural Indigenous Business Convention was held this month at the Potawatomi Hotel & Casino. The in-person event was hosted by the Indigenous Business Group and served as a way for native owned businesses, tribal officials, thought leaders and non-native participants to come together to connect, network, and further opportunity with other native entities.

The event kicked off with an evening reception followed by a full day of networking at the trade show and exploring different break-out sessions. A gala concluded the first day of the conference that consisted of performances, a plated dinner, an awards ceremony and closing remarks from the director of Reservation Dogs, Sterlin Harjo. The second day of the conference consisted of break-out sessions and dedicated networking segments. A portion of the proceeds from the event were donated to the American Indian Chamber of Commerce of Wisconsin.

We are still overcome with gratification from attending and being part of the inaugural conference. We would like to thank Collin Price of B-Team Strategy, Zoar Fulwilder of Mavid Construction Services, LLC, Rob Pero of Perodigm Media and their teams for putting on such an amazing event. We are already looking forward to next year!

River Trails School Ribbon Cutting

Posted by & filed under News.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held at the River Trails School in Milwaukee to commemorate the new Sustainable Production Forest on the school’s property. The project converted the former barren parcel into a series of berms and drainage swales that collect storm water runoff to support more than 100 trees and shrubs that will be planted on site. Students participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony and planted several trees.

The Forest will serve as a hands-on educational experience for the students in the agricultural program who will plant, maintain, and harvest the crops through the eventual marketing and sale of the products.

Greenfire is proud to serve as the construction manager on this experiential and purposeful project for the River Trails School and Milwaukee Public Schools. We would like to thank Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District, Corvias, and Black & Veatch for selecting Greenfire as their trusted construction partner. The project team includes John Fleischman, Jeff Stanisch and Paul Hackbarth.

October 2022 Project Spotlight | River Trails School

Posted by & filed under News.

The Milwaukee Public Schools School District partnered with the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District to turn a barren parcel of land on the River Trail School’s property into a sustainable production forest.

The baren parcel formerly collected rainwater and run-off with little to no drainage causing damage the land and flooding to the adjacent streets. The River Trail School saw this as an opportunity to turn the land into an educational source and solve the flooding issue.

The forest consists of nine berms and corresponding swales, each creating a drainage subarea. Runoff from the drainage area uphill of each swale will be captured, stored, and infiltrated, providing a source of water for the trees and shrubs planted along each berm. The runoff will support more than 100 trees and shrubs including hazelnuts, Asian pears, and chestnut varieties. The forest is designed to capture more than 176,000 gallons of stormwater.

The project has many inherit benefits. It will reduce the urban heat zone and solve the flooding issue by capturing the stormwater. It not only serves as a hands-on experience for students in the agriculture program but will help inspire those students to pursue careers in agriculture and green infrastructure. The plants were also specifically chosen because of the annual production of fruits and nuts. The annual production also serves as an educational source for business and marketing.  The students will harvest, package, and market their products to prospective customers through the eventual sale of each individual product. Since the fruit and nuts grow back every year, this will be an annual source of education for the students.

LeadingAge Wisconsin held their 2022 Fall Conference & 42nd Exhibitors Forum at the KI Convention Center in Green Bay. The two-day annual conference focuses on providing high quality education and networking opportunities that serve the needs of all aging service providers. The event offers breakout and networking sessions along with dedicated tradeshow slots for providers to meet with and learn more about the exhibiting companies.

Greenfire hosted a booth on the tradeshow floor for the third consecutive year. Maureen Carlson, Regional Business Development Manager, Kyle Widenski, Marketing Manager, and Michael Moe, Business Development Coordinator connected with visitors to extend our brand as a resource for assisted and senior living construction.

From this event, we established and maintained valuable relationships with service provider members and administrations who play key roles in construction contracts for long-term care, assisted living, senior living, and community living facilities throughout the state. As we continually pursue and grow our capabilities in this sector, we are pleased with the groundwork our team accomplished at this event.

September 2022 Project Spotlight | SoftwareONE North American Headquarters

Posted by & filed under News.

SoftwareONE, a leading global provider of software and cloud technologies solutions, is relocating its North American Headquarters Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward. The office space is located on the second floor of the historic Dye House and focuses on employee-centric elements to increase that increase collaboration and engagement. The project includes the remodel and build-out of the entire floor, totaling 17,000 SF.

The space features an open environment fitted with high-end AV features, lighting, and furnishes with about three-quarters of the floor dedicated to office and employee collaboration areas. New amenities include multiple open office spaces, enclosed offices, collaboration and conference rooms, and training rooms. The design also features a high-end kitchen and break room, a game room and multi-purpose room, along with a new reception, lounge area, and fireplace.

Initial construction began in July 2022 with selective demolition down to the industrial pre-cast columns. The completely open space served as a blank canvas to create a floorplan that addressed all of SoftwareONE’s needs, desires, and wishes. Due to long lead times, the construction team worked closely with the design team at project onset to identify value engineering options and substitutable materials.

Construction of the new office layout centered around upgraded HVAC and electrical systems retrofitted to the building’s central system. The upgraded electrical system is fit with modern fixtures; most notably a Connectrac System that serves as a two-fold solution to address company’s hybrid work approach. The system runs wiring and connections to each of the 80 workstations but can accommodate up to 200 employees allowing them to connect anywhere in the office.

The floorplan also called for construction of a high-end kitchen, which did not exist previously. This required the team to install plumbing modifications and appliance fixtures and upgrades like a new water heater and pump. Other work includes the remodel of the existing common bathrooms and new construction of a single, gender-neutral bathroom and a mother’s room.

Due to construction activity in an occupied building, the team maintained a strict site logistics plan to minimize disruption to lower and upper tenants, mitigate risk and noise pollution, and adhere to owner specifications for work on the historic building. The team is also used the third floor as a staging area to temporarily house early procured furniture and equipment so as to not impede construction progression or incumber the public areas or tenant operations of the building.

The objective of the new office is efficient high-end technology paired with ample connectivity. This is especially important for an international cloud solutions software company with offices and remote workers stationed across the globe. In addition to the Connectrac System, the office “is equipped with two training rooms that each have microphones throughout to pick up sound from everyone in the space, as well as two moving cameras to ensure both the speaker and the audience are captured for those tuning in virtually. There are ample outlets to keep employees’ laptops charged, including portable outlets.” (Nykiel, 2022).

With the company seeing employees spend more days in the office compared to remote work, the office is setup to feel more comfortable and homier. “It has a “resimmercial” design style, according to the company, combining residential elements like couches and comfy chairs with more traditional commercial office furniture — a nod to the company’s hybrid work approach.” (Nykiel, 2022). The high-tech customizable fireplace is also an added element to give the office a warm and inviting environment to help encourage collaboration and productivity.

We would like to recognize our project team for their hard work, adaptability, and dedication which has made this project a success so far. The team includes Mitch Berti, Assistant Project Manager, and Tim Williamson, Superintendent. We would also like to thank SoftwareONE and RINKA for selecting Greenfire as their trusted construction partner and the building owner, Founders 3 Real Estate Services, for making themselves available to our requests.
