Greenfire managed two mechanical upgrade projects for the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh: a cooling tower replacement at the campus heating plant and an HVAC upgrade at Harrington Hall. Together, the projects involved major equipment and system work across campus facilities, with construction planned around building use and university operations.
At the heating plant, the work included replacing the existing cooling tower and catwalk system, installing new hydronic piping, replacing pumps serving the new and existing towers, and adding electrical disconnects and control systems. The tower components arrived across six tractor-trailers and were staged in Oshkosh before being lifted to the roof. Greenfire coordinated equipment delivery, roof access, structural work, piping, electrical connections, testing, and commissioning. A&J Mechanical Contractors prefabricated and installed 12-inch steel hydronic piping.
At Harrington Hall, the HVAC upgrade included new basement hydronic plant equipment, pumps, heat exchangers, piping, building control units, and a dedicated outdoor air system. The work also involved electrical upgrades, plumbing relocations, selective demolition, roof and exterior work, and repairs to interior finishes. Greenfire coordinated work across the basement, roof, and occupied floors, sequencing activities with the university’s academic calendar and coordinating access, abatement, shutdowns, and system cutovers with project partners.
Greenfire’s construction management role connected the work across trades and building areas. Early planning and coordination helped align equipment procurement, installation sequences, temporary conditions, inspections, testing, and commissioning. At Harrington Hall, phased work allowed construction to proceed around classroom use, with first-floor activities planned around school breaks. At the heating plant, careful coordination supported the rooftop lift and integration of new equipment with existing systems.
The projects demonstrate Greenfire’s experience managing mechanical upgrades in active campus settings. By coordinating construction details with university operations and project partners, Greenfire helped advance complex building system work while maintaining a clear path from planning through installation and closeout.
