Camp Chi - Lake Delton, WI

Greenfire managed construction of a new 15,700 SF dining hall and commercial kitchen at Camp Chi’s Lake Delton, Wisconsin, campus. Operated by the Jewish United Fund/JCC Chicago, Camp Chi welcomes hundreds of children and teens from across the Midwest each summer. The new facility replaced aging dining and kitchen spaces with an expanded building designed to better support meal preparation, camp programming and group gatherings.

The project included approximately 9,500 SF of dining space, a 6,000 SF commercial kitchen and a new concrete outdoor patio. The larger dining hall increased capacity and provided a flexible central gathering space for campers and staff. The commercial kitchen incorporated specialized equipment and building systems needed to prepare and serve meals efficiently within the camp’s demanding daily schedule.

Greenfire collaborated with JCC Chicago, Amstadter Architects, MSA and Moshe Calamaro & Associates throughout preconstruction and construction. Early coordination focused on aligning the design with the project budget and schedule, identifying long-lead materials and planning the procurement and installation of commercial kitchen equipment.

Construction continued through Wisconsin’s winter and required careful planning for concrete placement, structural work, temporary heat and building enclosure. Greenfire coordinated forced-air heating during concrete pours to maintain appropriate temperatures and curing conditions. Close communication with trade partners helped maintain progress as exterior enclosure, interior framing, mechanical systems and kitchen infrastructure advanced concurrently.

The seasonal camp required a firm completion deadline tied to the arrival of campers. Greenfire developed and managed the construction sequence around that operational requirement, coordinating inspections, system startup, equipment installation and final turnover in time for the camp season.

The completed facility improves Camp Chi’s ability to serve its campers while supporting daily operations for years to come. The project adds to Greenfire’s experience managing unique facility types that require specialized systems, detailed coordination and schedules shaped around active client operations.
