Gold Medal Lofts is the historic renovation and adaptive reuse of two buildings built in 1894 from the Gold Medal Furniture Company’s industrial complex in Racine. The project converted the buildings into 77 units consisting of 65 affordable housing units and 12 market-rate units. Interior renovation includes selective demolition and reinforcement of structural shell and sub floors and refurbishment of timber columns and hardwood floor. New construction consists of installation of new windows, MEPFs and converted freight elevator systems into passenger cars. Exterior renovation includes complete tuckpoint of the brick façade, masonry saw-cut openings for windows and unit entries, a new roof on the north building, select demolition and repair to existing skywalk, and a new surface parking lot and sidewalks.
