This greenhouse expansion project is the 3,340 SF addition of energy efficient aquaponic space to the FCPC Tribe’s Bodwéwadmi Ktëgan (Potawatomi Farm) that supplies a constant supply of fresh greens that are available to the members of the tribe and general public. Greenfire prepared the site with earthwork excavation and poured the footings and foundations to erect the new greenhouse addition. This design-build, 30’ x 100’ passive solar greenhouse is built with heavy gauge steel to withstand the elements. In addition to the structural and mechanical work, the project team installed a polycarbonate wall glazing on the south facing side of the greenhouse for added efficiency. The facility features a ground-to-air heat transfer system that acts as a “climate battery” to allow the greenhouse to provide its own heating and cooling from the sun and the soil, providing a much lower environmental impact than traditional HVAC systems. This additional capacity will produce fish and greens year-round, that can be sold and distributed to local schools, tribal members and markets in the area.
