Greenfire Helps Spark Young Careers

Greenfire participated in BE THE SPARK: Career Conversations, hosted by the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce at Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design. The event brought together nearly 100 high school students from seven Milwaukee schools for small-group discussions focused on career exploration.

The MMAC team organized the program to connect students with professionals across industries and provide insight into career pathways. The format centered on guided conversations rather than traditional career fairs, allowing for direct dialogue and questions.

Greenfire was represented by Chris Kyte, VP of Project Development, and Simmi Urbanek, Director of Marketing & Business Development. They led three sessions with rotating groups of students, sharing their career paths and current roles. Discussions covered construction and development, marketing within the built environment, and how different roles contribute to project delivery.

Chris shared experience across healthcare, corporate facilities, renewable energy, multi-family housing, and hospitality. He outlined the construction project lifecycle and emphasized skills including self-initiative, organization, communication, and collaboration. Simmi discussed her background in marketing for construction and architecture and highlighted skills such as time management, communication, and writing.

Both speakers addressed career entry points and advancement opportunities. Greenfire outlined roles ranging from internships in preconstruction and construction to project engineer, superintendent, and project manager positions. Education and field experience pathways were discussed for each.

Greenfire’s participation supports workforce development and introduces students to careers in construction and related fields.
