The Griot is new construction of a four-floor, mixed-use development that includes a ground floor structural steel commercial space supporting three stick-frame residential floors above. The building is part of a revitalization effort of the surrounding area that includes the historic renovation of the Garfield School. It is located in a high-traffic urban area which required detailed preplanning in order to minimize risk, coordinate permitting and traffic reroutes, and account for future build-out of the commercial space. The project team worked closely with the design team to coordinate timing of design completion, material procurement and permitting. The 6,000 SF commercial space is framed with structural steel to create a completely open environment which currently houses a museum.
